The aim of this workshop is to provide a forum where international participants can share knowledge on the latest developments in MULEs and map out directions for future developments and research collaborations. The series of MULE workshops started in Beijing, China, December, 2006, in conjunction with ICCE2006 and the 2nd workshop was held in Hong Kong, August 2007. The 3rd workshop took place in Hiroshima Japan, in November 2007 in conjunction with ICCE2007, the 4th workshop was a doctoral student consortium in Taiwan at ICCE2008 in October 2008 and the 5th workshop was held in Japan, March 26-27, 2009. This will be the 6th workshop.

THE 6TH INTERNATIONAL WORKSHOP ON MOBILE AND UBIQUITOUS LEARNING ENVIRONMENTS

Dr. Gwo-Jen Hwang is currently a Distinguished Professor in the Department of Information and Learning Technology, and Dean of the College of Science and Engineering at National University of Tainan in Taiwan. His research interests include mobile and ubiquitous learning, computer-assisted testing, expert systems and knowledge engineering. Owing to the distinguished achievements in mobile and ubiquitous learning studies, in 2007, Dr. Hwang was elected as the Chair of the Special Interest Group of Mobile and Ubiquitous Learning in the Information Technology Education Division of the National Science Council in Taiwan. He has been serving the position since then.
Dr. Hwang has published more than 300 academic papers, including 102 papers in such professional journals as Computers & Education, Educational Technology & Society, British Journal of Educational Technology, Innovations in Education and Teaching International, and IEEE Transactions on Education among others. One of his research papers has been recognized by the well-established Computers & Education as one of the top 10 most frequently cited papers. Owing to the good reputation in academic research and innovative inventions of e-learning, in 2007, he received the annual Most Outstanding Researcher Award from the National Science Council in Taiwan.

Dr. Nian-Shing Chen is currently a Professor with the Department of Information Management, at the National Sun Yat-sen University. His research interests include synchronous teaching & learning, Synchronous assessment, mobile and ubiquitous learning, game-based learning and web-based instruction.
Dr. Chen has published more than 250 academic papers, including 72 papers in professional academic journals; such as Language Learning & Technology, Computers & Education, Educational Technology & Society, Computers in Human Behavior, Innovations in Education and Teaching International, and Innovation in Language Learning and Teaching. He received the Distinguished Researcher Award from the National Science Council in 2008. Prof. Chen is presently served as the Director of the International Collaborations Project on e-Learning, Taiwan E-Learning and Digital Archive Program (TELDAP) and the Chair of Expert Seminars and Web-based Tutorials for the IEEE Technical Committee on Learning Technology.

Dr. Pi-Hsia Hung is a professor of the Graduate Institute of Measurement and Statistics at National University of Tainan in Taiwan. Her research interests include computerized adaptive testing, dynamic assessment, growth analysis, and large scale CBT innovations. She is currently the chair of Technology-based Educational Assessment Center (TEAC-tw).

 

Dr. Gi-Zen Liu received his Ph.D. degree in Instructional Systems Technology from Indiana University Bloomington in the U.S. in 2003. He is a sixth-year assistant professor in the Department of Foreign Languages & Literature at National Cheng Kung University in Tainan, Taiwan. His research interests include digital language learning, multimedia and Web-based instruction, design of English language teaching and the hybrid course approach, and has published research papers on these topics in some journals and conference proceedings. In addition, he published a book entitled “Integrating Information & Communication Technologies into English Teaching and Learning” in 2009.

 

Dr. Hui-Chun Chu received her PhD degree from the Department of Information and Learning Technology at National University of Tainan in 2009. She is currently a Postdoctoral Researcher in that department. Her research interests include mobile and ubiquitous learning, information technology-applied instructions, knowledge engineering and expert systems.

 

Fan-Ray Kuo is a Ph.D. student in the Department of Information and Learning Technology at National University of Tainan in Taiwan. His master degree was granted in the Department of Interactive Multimedia, at the Middlesex University, London, in the U.K. His research interests cover mobile and ubiquitous learning, information technology-applied instruction.

 

 

 

Pei-Hui Kuo is currently a PhD student in the Graduate Institute of Measurement and Statistics at National University of Tainan in Taiwan. She was graduated from the same graduate institute with a master’s degree in 2006 and then worked as a statistician for The Language Training and Testing Center, which researches, develops, and administers language training and testing fields. Her research interests include item analysis, data analysis, educational measurement and assessment.

 

Mr. I-Hsiang Su is currently a PhD student in the Graduate Institute of Measurement and Statistics at National University of Tainan in Taiwan. He was graduated from the Graduate Institute of Information and Computer Education at the same school with a master’s degree in 1998. He is also a full-time elementary school teacher with teaching experience for seventeen years. His research interests include computerized test, item cloning, educational measurement and assessment.

Miss Chia-Hui Yu received her Master degree from the Department of Industrial Education and Technology at National Changhua University of Education in 2007. She is currently a full-time research assistant in the department and is responsible for the finance and administration. Her research interests include electronic commerce and technology management, marketing and service science.

 

 

I-Fang Huang is currently a graduate student with the Department of Information Management, at the National Sun Yat-sen University. His research interests include synchronous assessment and mobile reflection learning. His papers have been accepted for publication in the 20th international conference on information management, ICIM 2009 and The 17th International Conference on Computers in Education, ICCE 2009.
